Before you even think about adopting and Italian Greyhound, there are
a number of issues you must consider regarding how a dog will fit into
your lifestyle, including:
Have you done research about the Italian Greyhound breed? Gone to any
dog shows and talked to Italian Greyhound owners and breeders? Had the
opportunity to spend time with an Italian Greyhound to get to know it's
personality?
Are all members of your household as interested in getting a dog as
you are?
Do you live in a house or apartment with a fenced yard or will you
have to take the dog for walks a number of times a day? An Italian Greyhound
is not the type of dog that can be exercised off leash in an unenclosed
area.
How many hours are you away from home each day? Do you have necessary
time every day to interact with a dog, train it, play with it, etc.?
Do you have the necessary finances to take care of a dog if it becomes
seriously ill and needs costly veterinary care?
These are only a few of the questions you must ask yourself before
seriously considering adopting an Italian Greyhound. If after considerable
thought you still feel you could offer a rescue dog a suitable home, you
should:
Contact a member of the Italian Greyhound Rescue. They will provide
you with any information you may need, send you the necessary adoption
forms that you will need to complete, and generally help you with any problems
or questions you may have regarding adopting a rescue dog.
